Frequency is the key to success
Many beginner runners make the mistake of running too rarely or too often. To improve your pace, consistency matters more than a single heroic workout. Running regularly lets your body adapt to aerobic effort and build a solid base.
How many times per week?
If you’re just starting out, 3 sessions per week is ideal: you get a rest day between workouts. If you’re an intermediate runner, moving to 4 or 5 sessions can make a real difference—as long as you vary intensity to avoid overtraining.
Quality vs quantity
Not every kilometer is equal. To improve your pace, it’s not enough to just “pile on miles.” Include at least one quality session per week, such as intervals or fartlek, alongside easy recovery runs and a slow Sunday long run.
Listen to recovery signals
Improvement happens during rest, not during the run. If you feel chronic fatigue or persistent joint pain, cut back on frequency. Sleeping enough and eating a balanced diet are as fundamental as training itself for lowering your per-kilometer time.
